Where is Crosby?

Crosby is a coastal town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, sitting around six miles north of Liverpool city centre. It’s officially part of Merseyside, which is why you’ll see it referred to as Crosby Merseyside in some places and Crosby Liverpool in others.

Crosby Beach

It borders Waterloo and Seaforth to the south, Thornton and Ince Blundell to the north, and the Irish Sea to the west, with Merseyrail’s Northern Line linking it directly into the city.

Is Crosby a Nice Place to Live?

Crosby is considered an incredibly nice place to live by residents and frequent visitors alike. It’s a coastal suburb that offers a nice escape from bustling city life, with a mix of seaside charm, green spaces, and an active community of welcoming individuals and families.

Crosby is a breath of fresh air with a naturally calming feel, so it’s no wonder it is a popular day-trip or weekend destination for those wanting a break from the pace of day-to-day life.

Things to Do in Crosby

When you move to a new location, it helps to know there’s plenty to do when you get a day off or just want to get stuck into the community. Though Crosby is a small town, it’s very difficult to get bored.

Crosby Beach

What Crosby is arguably most famous for is its beach, which is also home to the art installation ‘Another Place’ by Antony Gormley (also known as the Iron Men), which features 100 life-size, cast-iron figures spread across three kilometres of the foreshore, so if you like a stroll on the beach or a paddle in the water, all while being surrounded by breathtaking views of brilliant art, Crosby Beach is definitely the spot for you.

Crosby Coastal Park and Marina

You can also enjoy a scenic four-mile green and waterside recreation area along the Sefton coastline. This area is a central water body, used for sailing, kayaking and other water sports, so if you’re a bit of an adrenaline junkie, you’re never far away from an opportunity for a bit of fun.

Crosby Marina is also home to The Bus Yard, which is a popular open-air street food and bar venue built around a converted double-decker bus, so if you fancy a drink or something delicious to eat in a beautiful environment, this is definitely one to check out.

Crosby Village

If retail therapy is one of your favourite hobbies, you’re in luck. With a blend of independent shops, name brands and regular community markets, there’s really something for everyone. The area continues to grow as more and more people join the community, so there couldn’t be anywhere better to grab a coffee and window shop.

Food and Nightlife

Crosby is home to plenty of independent restaurants and bars, giving the town a thriving food and nightlife scene. Whether you’re looking for Instagram-worthy small plates, homely grub, a lively night out with live music, or a relaxed bar, Crosby has you covered.

Transport Links and Getting Around Crosby

Getting around Crosby itself couldn’t be easier. It’s a walkable town, with South Road and the seafront both within easy reach on foot, so you can wander from a coffee shop to the beach without needing to think about parking.

For anything a bit further, regular bus routes link up the different pockets of Crosby and neighbouring Waterloo and Blundellsands, making it simple to hop between areas without a car, and there’s a Bike & Go hire scheme right at the train station if you fancy exploring the coastline on two wheels.

For job commuters, the train links are a real draw. Crosby has three Merseyrail stations, Waterloo, Blundellsands & Crosby and Hall Road, all on the Northern Line into Liverpool city centre.

Trains run every fifteen to twenty minutes, and you’re into Liverpool Central or Moorfields in around fifteen to twenty minutes, so it’s a genuinely easy commute. Add in good road links via the A565 towards the M57 and M62, and it’s easy to see why so many professionals choose to settle here without giving up their journey into the city.

If you’d like a wider view of how Crosby compares for getting into town, our guide to the best areas to live in Liverpool for city centre commuters is well worth a read.

Very pleasant and professional experience while selling my house. It was a refreshing change to deal with real people on the phone who are very friendly and knowledgable and kept me informed every step of the way. From Mike who valued the property to all the girls dealing with the sale, the staff have all been amazing and made it a lot less stressful than it could have been. Thank you.
