One in two of us will face cancer at some point in our lives.
It’s a cruel illness that doesn’t make allowances for anyone which is why it’s so important we do whatever we can help fund cancer research and support those who support those living with cancer.
As a family, Lyons Estates has experienced the heartache and distress cancer brings, which is why we wanted to show our commitment to a cause that truly resonates so on Friday 25th September we’ll be holding a ‘Grab & Go Cuppa and Cake’ Afternoon Tea.
If you’re around our office on Aintree Road in Bootle from 2.30pm on the 25th September then stop by and get your take away cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake – all you have to do in return is make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Research.

Who Are Macmillan?
A Macmillan Cancer Support are here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.
Macmillan Nurses are qualified nurses with specialist qualifications and skills in cancer care. Their role is to support patients and their families through diagnosis and treatment. They also advise on aspects of care when treatment is for comfort and not cure, which is known as palliative care.
They also see people who do not have cancer, but are dealing with other chronic illnesses such as motor neurone disease, end-phase cardiac disease, and multiple sclerosis. The Macmillan Nurses help with symptom control and provide palliative care.
A Macmillan Nurse is available to patients from diagnosis onwards. This may be for:
- Information relating to diagnosis and treatment options
- Advice on physical symptom management
- Psychological, emotional and social support for patients and their families
- Bereavement support for families known to the Macmillan Nurse
- Financial advice, such as helping you access any benefits you may be eligible for Macmillan
- Cancer Relief patient grants are available for a variety of financial needs.
The Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning
The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea:
guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was
so effective, they did it again the next year. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £275 million for
Macmillan.
Our Takeaway Afternoon Tea will adhere to all social distancing guidelines and please don’t come along
in groups of more than 6.
How Is The Money You Donate Spent?
- £52 could help run our Online Community forum for over an hour. Typically, that would give nearly 750 people affected by cancer both emotional and practical support.
- £250 could pay for five people living with cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with the skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.
- £335 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together.
- £546 could pay for a Macmillan Social Care Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.
- £1023 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
